Some companies require diplomacy, while others demand brutal honesty.Ā

Constructive ambiguity is a powerful tool in negotiations or sensitive situations, it keeps options open, prevents unnecessary conflict, and allows flexibility. But it also risks creating confusion, slowing down decisions, or leaving people unsure of where they stand.

Radical candor, on the other hand, is about giving clear, direct feedback while showing genuine care. It fosters growth, strengthens teams, and builds trust. Yet, if delivered without empathy or timing, it can backfire, coming off as harsh or demotivating.

So, when should companies and their leaders embrace ambiguity, and when is honesty the better path? At The Big Fish, we lean toward radical candor, because great leadership starts with truth. But there’s no one-size-fits-all answer. Where do you draw the line? Let’s discuss, drop your opinion below and see who is right:)!
